About Me

Hi, I'm Jess. I created Look Out Bolo in 2016 here in Portland, Oregon. The contrast of pairing vintage jewelry with modern fashion is the driver for each piece I make. I go out and hunt for unique vintage jewelry at thrift shops and antique stores, giving them a new life and turning them into one of a kind modern bolos. This is my favorite part of the process. I meet amazing shop owners, hear stories behind various pieces of jewelry, and explore local businesses while on my treasure hunts. Through my work I hope to inspire others to embrace both the old and the new by giving once loved vintage jewelry a new life.

Where did the name come from? One thing you should know about me is that I love a well-delivered pun. Look Out Bolo (like “look out below!”) came to mind then I realized it was more than just a fun play on words. This concept of looking, sight, or vision is exactly the theme of what I do. I scour the ins and outs of vintage shops, antique stores, and estate sales, looking out for the perfect bolo tie components.

Look Out Bolo is a woman-owned small business operating in Portland, Oregon. The Portland Metro area rests on traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla, and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia and Willamette Rivers.
