Hi, I'm Jess and I live in Portland, Oregon. By day I work at a music licensing agency. Once while on a business trip in New York City, I met a client wearing a suit and a bolo tie. I was inspired by his style to mix a traditionally western accessory with a snazzy modern suit, and so the idea of Look Out Bolo was born. This contrast of pairing vintage jewelry with modern fashion is the driver for each piece I craft. I go out and hunt for unique vintage pieces at thrift shops and antique stores, making each tie one-of-a-kind. This is the most fun part of the process. I meet amazing shop owners, hear stories behind various pieces of jewelry, and explore local businesses while on my treasure hunts. In addition to fashion, music is another one of my passions. Using musicians I admire as style inspiration, I hope to inspire others to embrace both the vintage and the modern, the old and the new.
Where'd the name come from? One thing you should know about me is that I love a well-delivered pun. When brainstorming names back in 2016, I knew I wanted at least a play on words in the name. Look Out Bolo came to mind and was intended to be spoken aloud to sound like "Look Out Below." Then after further consideration, I realized that this concept of looking, sight, vision is exactly the theme of what I do. I scour the ins and outs of vintage shops, antique stores, estate sales, even Ebay, looking out for the perfect bolo tie contenders.
